To alleviate the high water level caused by run-off from the North, the Chao Phraya dam is now discharging more water downriver. (Photo by Cheewin Sattha)CHAI NAT -- The Chao Phraya Dam has begun discharging more water downstream as run-off from the torrential rains in the North has swollen the Chao Phraya River, an official said on Sunday. Starting Sunday, the dam is now discharging more water downstream, from 70 to 599 cubic metres per second. Mr Suchart said more water from the North is expected to flow into the Chao Phraya River next week, but the river will not yet overflow its banks. Aside from releasing water downstream, the Royal Irrigation Department will also divert water from the Chao Phraya River onto the land on both sides for agriculture, he added.
